The Pretty Pregnant Bra Fitting and Sizing Tips

Your Maternity Bra

Here at Pretty Pregnant we'd suggest you go for your first maternity bra from 12 weeks onwards and allow for up to 3 fittings (and ever changing breasts!) throughout your pregnancy. Every woman is different but it's common for women to go up 2-4 band sizes and 2-4 cup sizes during the 9 months. You will need at least 2-3 maternity or nursing bras.

Maternity check list:
  1. Your Back - The back strap should be flush to your ribcage and allow you to wiggle 2 fingers underneath so you've still got room to grow. Go for a style with lots of clips so you can get the most wear from your bra & remember the support for your breasts comes from the fit on your torso not the shoulder straps!
  2. The Cup - Your boobs are set to grow & grow so cup size is more important than ever. Make sure the cup fully covers your breasts and sits on top of the natural curve. Be sure to try your bra on its tightest setting and check for comfort - this way when things start to expand so can your bra.
  3. The Fabric - Comfort is key when you're pregnant so go for styles in soft, breathable fabrics that will support without constricting you. Make it easier on yourself too by choosing fabrics that are easily washable and dry quickly too.

Your Nursing Bra

You've reached the end of term & it's never looked as good since high school! But your body is still going through some changes and your breasts are a big part of that. We'd suggest you come in for your nursing bra fitting from 36 weeks onwards - however we're always happy to fit you whenever you feel necessary. On average you'll go up another 2 cup sizes while your body re-adjusts.

Nursing check list:
  1. Your Back - Again all your support comes from that sturdy strap so make sure you're comfortable and the strap's wings are flush to your torso. Be sure to wiggle your fingers underneath to ensure you have room for any swelling, just in case.
  2. The Nursing Function - have a play around so you're sure you've got the jist. This way when you need to you're already a pro! All our bra's come with durable and easy to use clips allowing you to feed quickly & discreetly with ease.
  3. The Fabric - Always look for soft, breathable fabrics that will support but not constrict your breasts. Go for a style that's cotton rich and super stretchy and you'll be able to use your bra as a sleep bra too. We also have a range of specialist permeable underwired bra's offering all the essentials and some extra support too. The underwire is made of soft plastic making it perfectly safe for use whilst feeding.
